Some very sad news:

I just received this prayer request about this St. Brendan family! I cannot believe what happened to them! We need to keep this girl Christina in our prayers. Please pass on to the St. Brendan community (alumni, etc). She needs us all now.
God Bless my friend,

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
I ask you to please pray for the Gutierrez family, you may have read about this family...they were on there way up to north Florida over Easter weekend and were involved in an accident, the mother and youngest daughter Karina died on the scene, son Eddie and Christina (current student) were hospitalized. Eddie passed away last night, he was a 2004 graduate of St Brendan High School, sister Christina is in stable condition, I ask everyone to please pray for Christina as she recovers and that God be by her side as she deals with the tragedy of losing her family.

The Fr. Dennehy Foundation Board has been hard at work.   Many of you have responded to our latest appeal letter.  Thank you.   We're working on a lot of ideas.  Here's just a taste to get you thinking:

Seminars at the school for Alumni and Faculty.   Subjects might include Estate/Financial Planning, Credit Repair, Spiritual/Family Counseling, Career Opportunities, etc.
Do you still have your old year books?   No?   We might be able to help you.
We would like to get your reflections about your time at SBHS.   Be thinking about your memories and write them up.    I'm sure your thoughts will trigger other people to write up theirs.   It's also a good exercise to write every once in a while.

Are you on our mailing list?  If not, here are some recent newsletters to let you know what's going on at the school today and with your fellow Alumni.

THOMAS DENNEHY, Miami priest, 65, in native Ireland

The Rev. Thomas Anthony Dennehy, a priest of the Archdiocese of Miami, was among the founders and builders of St. Brendan Catholic Church in Homestead (sic) and Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale.

``He was very much committed to education of youths,'' said Msgr. Vincent Kelly, who worked with Dennehy at Cardinal Gibbons High for a few years.

Kelly, now supervising principal for St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, said Dennehy got personally involved.

``He helped in the physical construction itself,'' Kelly said.

Dennehy died April 10 near his hometown in Glanmire, Ireland, of a heart attack. He was 65.

Born in Millstreet, County Cork, on April 11, 1934, Dennehy studied philosophy and theology at All Hallows College in Dublin. He was ordained a priest in 1958. From Ireland, he was assigned to the archdiocese in St. Augustine ; there was only one archdiocese at the time.

Dennehy's first assignment was to teach at Christopher Columbus High in Miami. After that, he studied school administration at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he received his master's in education.

For 35 years, he served the archdiocese as a priest and educator. His first class at St. Brendan High started with approximately 400 students in 1975; by his retirement in 1993, the school had more than 1,100.

``He had tremendous conviction and influenced many young students, men and women who credit him for much of their success,'' Kelly said.

Dennehy is survived by a brother, Denis, of Dublin, and a sister, Noreen Monaghan, of Melbourne, Australia.
